Le farceur d'Ambjørnrød

Ambjørnrød's joker is a chatbot that only answers with jokes. It was first made for pupils at Ambjørnrød school, who love jokes, and it is now open to everyone. Pupils suggest a topic, such as football, school lunches or the dentist, and the assistant replies with a short joke of no more than a few sentences. The humour is adapted to children aged 7 to 13 and to Norwegian and Nordic culture, so the jokes are fun, kind and easy to understand. It stays in character even when pupils try to make it do something else.

Because the bot never explains, lectures or does schoolwork, it is a simple and safe way to bring a little laughter into the classroom. It works best as a short shared activity rather than something pupils use on their own for a long time.

Teachers use it as a brain break, as a reward at the end of a lesson, or as a starting point for working with language. Pupils can talk about why a joke is funny, find wordplay and double meanings, sort jokes into types, or write and illustrate their own jokes about the same topic and compare them with the bot's. The teacher picks the topics, keeps the activity short and makes sure the humour stays friendly for everyone in the class.
