What GPT-5 means for education

Fewer factual errors

OpenAI reports that GPT-5 delivers around 45% fewer factual mistakes than GPT-4o. When the model is allowed to reason more thoroughly on difficult tasks, the error rate drops even further. For teachers and students, this means more reliable answers when preparing lessons, doing homework, or working on projects.

More natural, subject-focused conversations

The model follows instructions better and is less repetitive. It asks clarifying questions when needed and explains in ways that are easy to follow for students at different levels.

Stronger in maths and coding

GPT-5 sets a new benchmark on several tests. In practice, you get clear, step-by-step explanations in maths and solid support for debugging and solving coding problems.

Better with images and diagrams

The model now understands images much better than before. For example, you can upload a picture of a maths problem or diagram and ask questions or get a detailed explanation.

Access in SchoolHub.ai

  • Free users get access to GPT-5-mini
  • Subscribers get access to GPT-5 (full version)

You can select the model in the model selector inside the chat.

Privacy, operations and response times

SchoolHub.ai runs on Microsoft Azure in the EU. Currently, the reasoning-capable variants are available from Azure’s EU data centres. This approach may result in slightly longer response times, but often produces more thoughtful and accurate answers. All processing happens in the EU, in line with GDPR. As Azure enables more variants in the EU, we’ll make them available. We also plan to display parts of the model’s reasoning in conversations where it’s useful for learning.

Getting started

For Plus subscribers

  1. Log into SchoolHub.ai
  2. Open a chat
  3. Select GPT-5 in the model selector
  4. Ask your question

For free users
Select GPT-5-mini in the model selector. You’ll get a great preview of what the model can do.

Ideas for classroom use

Differentiation
Ask GPT-5 to explain the same topic for two different year levels – for example, photosynthesis for Year 5 and for Year 12. You’ll get explanations with the right language and level.

Creative writing and language
Use the model as a brainstorming partner for ideas, structure, and editing. Ask for suggestions tailored to your target language style and age group.

Maths and programming
Have students receive suggested approaches before seeing the answer. Ask for a similar practice question at the same level. In programming, the model can highlight where the error likely is and explain why.

The road ahead

We will continue optimising performance and response time within the EU environment. We’re also considering offering a faster variant once it’s available from European data centres. At the same time, we’re building further GPT-5 integrations into our learning tools, so you get even more value in planning, assessment, and student activities.

  • Show parts of the reasoning in conversations
  • Make more model variants available as Azure enables them in the EU
  • Expand GPT-5 features in our tools
