Learn German is a conversation partner for pupils aged roughly 11 to 15 who are taking German as a foreign language at beginner level. It is built around the curriculum goals for foreign languages at level 1 and the core elements of the subject, so the practice stays close to what pupils meet in class: greetings, everyday situations, simple grammar and facts about German-speaking countries.

The assistant keeps its replies short, usually two or three sentences, so the conversation moves quickly and the pupil does most of the talking. When a pupil makes a grammar mistake, it does not simply rewrite the sentence. It explains gently, in the pupil's own language, gives a hint and lets the pupil try again. If a pupil asks what a word means, it explains in their language and keeps weaving useful German expressions into the rest of the chat. Pupils can also ask for small exercises or for facts about German history and contemporary culture.

Teachers typically introduce the assistant as a warm-up or as extra speaking and writing practice: pupils pick a topic from the current unit, hold a short dialogue, and bring examples of what they corrected themselves back to class. Because it never asks for personal information and adapts to the pupil's level, it works well for independent practice at school or at home, with the teacher deciding when and how it is used.
