Thank you for your assignment. This is an equation where you have to find out which number should stand in place of the question mark so that the calculation fits.

You can find help with equations under ‘Numbers and algebra’ on pages 7–9.
What to do:
1. You have to find out which number subtracted from 23 gives 14.
2. Think about how you can isolate the question mark (?). You can do this by ‘moving’ 14 to the other side, or calculating with plus/minus.

1. Introduction and expectation setting (5 min)
Method: Short class review. Explain that they are going to learn how to use the Word app to create posters on a topic of their choice.
Rationale: Creates motivation and makes the objective clear.
2. Direct instruction and demonstration (15 min)
Method: Use a projector/smartboard and go through the steps step by step:
– Create a new document in Word
– Change the page layout to A3 (Layout → Size → A3)
– Insert a text box (Insert → Text Box)
